About Saint Sophia
Saint Sophia is a parish of the Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Metropolis of Boston. Our parish is composed of over 350 families of Orthodox faithful in southeastern CT. We are home to students from local colleges and the United States Coast Guard Academy as well as the United States Navy Base located in Groton, healthcare providers and homemakers, salespersons and government workers, many restaurateurs, young and old, the newly baptized and the seasoned Orthodox. We come from a variety of backgrounds, but we share a common belief that we are called to glorify God and enjoy fellowship with Him forever. We come together each week to worship God and center our lives upon His truth. In the midst of everyday living, raising children, making ends meet and scheduling business trips, we draw near each week to the One who gives us strength for the journey.
We have ministries for our youth including a Sunday School and Greek School, weekly Studies in the Faith, a Philoptchos women’s ministry, senior group, and a choir to name a few. These all provide the faithful meaningful times of worship, opportunities for fellowship, prayer, and outreach.
If you are a long-time local or a newcomer and are looking for a church home, we invite you to worship God with us this Sunday.
In the Peace that is in Christ,
Rev. Dean A. Panagos
